It is true that this kind of network can help people communicate with each other... but i still think that the easiest way to communicate is to talk infront of one person.

But i can hand it to Facebook that it can be fun when you have a lot of "friends"

I think that one key point is missing: social networking works if everyone in a company (or an agency) is involved and that's really hard to keep faith in social networking when some of your colleagues do not want to play the game.

I do not see any reason why social networks facilitate retention (do you leave a company because corporate culture has changed little by little?) Imho, social networks may help you to stay motivated as they help to share knowledge.

I wonder if the reasons for deplyoing social networks may not lead to some secret or sensitive information leak since the complete hierarchy of a company may be exposed. It could be also easier for other corporations to recruite your human assets.

And finally I would say that we do not have to wait for sical networks to break down hierarchies. If your manager fails, he will be quickly out of the workflow.

The idea of communicating with friends of friends is interesting and tends to generate a community spirit. But those relationships may be not deap, how to know a new person without meeting him or her? That's why I agree with Stan, social network is a great way of staying in touch with people you're already friend with.
